GET TO KNOW ME MEME: 5 favourite relationships» Anna & St. Clair (from Anna and the French Kiss, by Stephanie Perkins) [1/5]
“You tell me I’m beautiful, and that you like my hair and you like my smile. You rest your leg against mine in darkened theaters, and then you act as if nothing happened when the lights go up.You slept in my bed for three nights straight, and then you just…blew me off for the next month. What am I supposed to do with that,St. Clair? You said on my birthday that you were afraid of being alone, but I’ve been here this whole time. This whole time.”

I’m in love with you, and I know that love is just a shout into the void, and that oblivion is inevitable, and that we’re all doomed and that there will come a day when all our labor has been returned to dust, and I know the sun will swallow the only earth we’ll ever have, and I am in love with you.
This is why I don’t quite understand her, and where the dislike comes from. She writes these songs with the intentions of being mean. She wants to publicly ridicule, shame, and make these men be seen as bad people. Then when; from her mouth, they reach out to her; rightfully angry or possibly civilized, she seems to laugh in their face. That’s childish and flat out harassment. Taylor is belittling these men on a world stage, for no reasons other than to get a number one, and then scoffs off their feelings. Sure they must know this going into a relationship with her, but that doesn’t excuse it. Then you have her fans eating it up, and sending hate and death threats to these men, all because Taylor likes to play the victim. It’s almost as if she gets off on the manipulation, and that’s fucked up. But try and call her out for it on a public form, and you’re the bad guy. Try being someone who doesn’t feed into her ways, and you’re a hater. She’s so spoiled in the media and industry, that no one wants to tell the truth about her. It can’t be that she’s just misunderstood either, when this goes beyond a pattern. It’s ridiculous, and I wish people would call like it is. She’s a grown woman in her mid 20’s almost, she can handle someone kicking her off that pedestal. It’s time.
Yup. This. She’s a manipulative liar.
Right, well, as a fan, I would like to offer up a different point of view (By no means do i want to start an argument, but some of the things you accuse her of are just downright unfair.)
1) “She writes these songs with the intentions of being mean. She wants to publicly ridicule, shame, and make these men be seen as bad people.” NO. Taylor has said before that her songs are like her diary. She writes as a way to understand her own thoughts and to express her feelings, whether it be love, anger or frustration. She never openly reveals who her songs are about, and the only time she name-dropped in break-up song was in Dear John. How can she be trying to publicly shame men we don’t even know if she really wrote about? She is simply offering her own perspective on her own relationship, and has acknowledged that these men have just as much of a right as her to express their point of view on the matter (“they can write a song about me, too, if they want”…and in fact, it is widely rumored that John Mayer did). I would also like to point out that a vast majority of artists are just as “guilty” of putting their relationships to song as Taylor…just look at the top 100 on iTunes. Note that no one, however, accuses, say Miley Cyrus, of “harassing” a man by writing Wrecking Ball.
2)”Then you have her fans eating it up, and sending hate and death threats to these men, all because Taylor likes to play the victim.” As for the fans sending hate, I would just like to point out that you seem to be a One Direction blog. I actually love One Direction, but shall I draw up all the hate that got sent to Taylor when she was dating Harry? Or Eleanor for dating Louis? Or Danielle for dating Liam? Now you’re probably thinking “Well I don’t do that!” and yes, I’m sure you don’t. In fact, the vast majority of the fandom doesn’t, but those few awful fans give everyone a bad rap. Basically, please don’t try to categorize an entire fandom by the actions of a few. Loving Taylor hasn’t stopped me from listening to John Mayer or One Direction, or fawning over how hot Jake Gyllenhall is.
As for the next point, Taylor by no means “plays the victim.” Quite the contrary, she acknowledges that relationships are a two way streak. Take Dear John, for example. One line reads “Maybe it’s me, and my blind optimism to blame.” Or IKYWT: “Shame on me, now.” Just listen to Back to December and then try to say she never admits she’s the problem. Taylor obviously isn’t perfect, but she never has pretended to be.
3) “But try and call her out for it on a public form, and you’re the bad guy. Try being someone who doesn’t feed into her ways, and you’re a hater.” As for this, hating on Taylor actually seems to be a bit of a trend these days. More and more, trying to stand up for taylor is the difficult thing. The media more and more often paints her to be a bad person, posting articles claiming she’s dating someone new everyday. At awards shows, she is always on the bunt end of some joke about her dating life. Take the Grammys. She offered a stunning performance of “All Too Well,” and because critics and kids on the internet couldn’t make fun of her singing voice or choreography or outfit, they ridiculed her for flipping her hair too much, and thus discredited the entire performance. Even when someone would give in that the song was good, they had to offer up a bit of a disclaimer “Now I’m not a fan of Taylor, but…” or “Good performance but I hate Taylor Swift.” So no, I have to disagree with this point entirely.
4)”She’s a manipulative liar.” - Oh really? Were you in the room the last time she got dumped? Do you know all the sordid details of her love life? How on earth can you possibly know enough about her personal life to classify her as either of these two things.
DAMN GURRRRL YOU SAID IT ALL TOO WELL

"I’ve grown up seeing the pros and cons but I love it and I’ve always wanted to act. Throughout all the rejections at auditions, and especially when I finally did get something, both my parents have been so supportive and always told me it is all about passion and, if I was doing it because I love it, there’s no wrong choice."
